You Are the Treasure that I Seek

by Greg Dutcher

In the Old Testament you could spot idolatry quickly, and throwing an idol into the fire or knocking over a stone altar seemed to be an easy solution.  What about today?  Are idols just a part of the Old Testament past or of an Indiana Jones adventure?

In You Are the Treasure That I Seek, Pastor Greg Dutcher takes a new look at an old problem with witty and relevant insights to help you identify idolatry in this modern world.

What captures and holds your attention?  Discover the true treasure that you seek: the incomparable beauty of Christ.  You'll find questions at the end of each chapter, making this a great book for individual or group use.

Greg Dutcher is a self-confessed recovering idolater. He is also the senior pastor of Christ Fellowship Church in Fallston, Maryland. You Are the Treasure that I Seek looks at what we have often exchanged Jesus for in everyday life – the glory of God for idols such as money, food, video gaming – and even the iPhone. Dutcher delves into this problem which is still very much present and one that we so often neglect. He is never afraid of reminding us how bleak our situation truly is, stating “…underneath the veneer of such carefree lives, we are decomposing.” By investigating these idols he leads the reader to a humbling and awe-inspiring reminder of our foremost need of the Gospel. By teaching us important lessons about how to know when the boundary between enjoyment and enslavement has been crossed, he reminds us of how amazing the beauty and grace of Christ is and that in reality the love of God is the treasure we should seek above everything this world can offer. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in discovering and defeating the enemy that so cunningly lurks in all our hearts. It is full of great applications, is constantly backed up with Biblical examples and includes a useful study guide at the end of each chapter, making the subject completely accessible. This book serves as an eye-opener into how easy it is to slip into idolatry and how comfortable we find it when we’re there.
